The History of the Department of Social Psychology
The Department of Social Psychology was founded in Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian University in 1993. The Department staff provides professional disciplines teaching in all university faculties and institutes, in the Educational Institute of Postgraduate Education and Distance Learning as well as provides guidance to the psychological and pedagogical practice of students, course papers, bachelor, diploma and master researches.
The Department of Social Psychology supports scientific relations with the Departments of Psychology of Ternopil National Pedagogical University and Kirovograd State Pedagogical Institute and with the Institute of Psychology of the Ukrainian Academy of Pedagogical Sciences named after G.S. Kostiuk, Taras Shevchenko National University in Kyiv, Yuriy Fedkovych National University in Chernivtsi, and Drohobych State Pedagogical University.
Since the department was founded it was headed by the Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor L.E. Orban-Lembryk. In 1996 the issue of the professional scientific edition of HAC of Ukraine “The Collection of Scientific Works: philosophy, sociology, and psychology” was started. Professor L.E. Orban-Lembryk was the Chairman of the editorial board of the collection since the moment of its foundation.
The employees of the department are involved as the experts in criminal and civil cases for the purpose of carrying out judicial and psychological examinations.They work closely with civic and charity organizations in matters of psychological assistance to internal migrated persons and to the participants of antiterrorist operation (ATO). The lecturers of the department worked out educational programs in social psychology, management psychology, legal psychology, business psychology, political psychology, family psychology, and conflict psychology.
In 2013, it was founded the holding of the annual festival of the psychologists of Precarpathia “Innovative Technologies in Practical Psychology” led by Professor A.A Lishchynska which purpose was to get acquainted with the
achievements of psychological science and practice, the carrying out of the professional and orientation work with gifted children. The laboratory “Information and Psychological Security” is attached to the Department.
The department is headed by the Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor L.D. Zagray. At present the Department of Social Psychology consists of 2 Doctors of Psychological Sciences, Professors, 8 Candidates of Psychological Sciences, and Assistant Professors. The edition of “The Collection of Scientific Works: philosophy, sociology, and psychology” is on. The annual international Internet conference “The Actual Problems of Modern Social Psychology” is held.
